I am pleased that you are interested in being trained as a mediator. The purpose of this 40-hour program is to train mediators in compliance with Iowa law so as a mediator you can mediate in Iowa and in family law disputes in the state of Iowa. For this program to be effective and enjoyable, the training will be casual but professional and will be held in a comfortable and relaxed environment.
You will receive comprehensive training that will form a foundation for your Mediation Practice or for a Collaborative Law Practice. Although this training is not intended to be advanced skill training, some advanced skill development may be introduced. This 40-hour mediation training will provide a thorough background in dispute resolution to enable you to develop your own style and area of mediation.
The training will help you to develop a basic plan to set up a practice/business in mediation or to use the knowledge gained to become more effective with other people that you encounter.
The training will be a seminar style of learning with active participation by each participant. Please feel free to ask questions as we proceed through the training. And, yes, we will do a lot of role playing so you get a chance to practice mediating. This is a 40-hour course and to complete your certificate, you must attend all 40 hours. I will incorporate breaks within the training and we will break for lunch daily.
